James H. Sabry, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Sabry co-founded Cytokinetics in August 1997 and has been a member of our board of directors since the Company’s inception. In April 2008, Dr. Sabry was appointed Chairman of the board of directors. Previous to that appointment, Dr. Sabry has also served the company as President and Chief Executive Officer and as Executive Chairman of the board of directors.

Prior to co-founding the Company, Dr. Sabry held faculty positions at the University of California, San Francisco, from 1989 to 1998, and Harvard Medical School from 1984 to 1987. In July 2008, Dr. Sabry was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Arete Therapeutics.

Dr. Sabry serves on the board of directors of HopeLab, a not-for-profit organization developing innovative technologies for the management of cancer, obesity and other diseases. He is a member of Dean’s Council of the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Dr. Sabry also serves on the advisory boards of numerous organizations including the California Institute of Quantitative Biosciences. He is a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization and an avid squash player.

Dr. Sabry received an M.D. from Queen's University and a Ph.D. in Cell Biology from the University of California, San Francisco. He completed a residency in neurology at the Brigham and Womens’ Hospital at Harvard Medical School.
