Mark McDade

Mark McDade has served as Lead Director of our board of directors since January 2007 and has been a member of the board since April 2005. In 2008, Mr. McDade was appointed Executive Vice President, Corporate Strategy and Business Development at UCB SA. From November 2002 until October 2007, Mr. McDade was Chief Executive Officer and a Director of PDL BioPharma, Inc. (Nasdaq: PDLI). From December 2000 until November 2002, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Signature BioScience, Inc. Prior to Signature, he was a co-founder and director of Corixa Corporation (Nasdaq: CRXA). He served as Chief Operating Officer at Corixa from September 1994 through December 1998 and as President and Chief Operating Officer from January 1999 until his departure in late 2000. Before Corixa, he was Chief Operating Officer of Boehringer Mannheim-Therapeutics. Prior to Boehringer Mannheim-Therapeutics, he served in several positions at Sandoz Ltd., which included business development, product management and general management responsibilities. Mr. McDade currently serves on the board of directors of Valentis, Inc. and LigoCyte Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Mr. McDade received a B.A. in History from Dartmouth College and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
