Department: Finance Job Title: Senior Accountant Job Location: South San Francisco Description: Position Summary:
We are currently looking for aSenior Accountant reporting to the Assistant Controller. The individual will be responsible for meeting tight deadlines, and must be hands-on, organized and detail-oriented.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
· Monthly/Quarter End Close: Assists in the monthly and quarterly close process and owns specific close activities, such as account reconciliations and analysis, journal entries, preparation of support schedules to the financial statements, invoicing for collaborations, reconciliation of equipment lease line and payments, all fixed asset and payroll accounting journal entries and reconciliations. Ensures all transactions and entries are prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
· Internal Control Compliance: Ensures that all responsibilities are performed in accordance with the company’s established Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) compliance framework, and assists in the preparation of process narratives, testing selections for fixed assets, payroll and other areas.
· Payroll and 401K:Processes semi-monthly payroll and prepares all monthly, quarterly and year-end payroll and benefit reporting and filings. Assists with Workers Compensation audits. Process and prepare all 401K compliance reporting, including support for the annual filing of the Form 5500.
· Tax Returns and Other Government Reporting: Assist in the preparation of supporting schedules for the annual Federal and State Tax, sales tax, property tax and other returns. Assist in the preparation of other government required quarterly and annual reports.
· Stock Administration: Responsible for the daily stock option processing utilizing Equity Edge
· Other: Assists with annual business insurance renewal process and supporting schedules for the annual proxy preparation, as well as special projects as required.
Qualifications:
· Requires a BS/BA in accounting, finance, or business with six-plus years’ experience, with a CPA preferred, with at least 2 years experience in a life science environment and at least 4 years experience in a SOX compliance environment.
· Highly organized with an attention to detail and accuracy, a comprehensive knowledge of financial accounting, strong computer skills and must be proficient in Word, Excel, Microsoft Great Plains, ADP Payroll process, and experience with Equity Edge, strong written and verbal communication skills, self starter that can work independently in a team environment to meet established deadlines.
