Cytokinetics is extending its validated drug discovery platform in contractility to create new therapeutic opportunities based on the skeletal muscle contractility and is central to the pathophysiology of a broad array of common conditions including frailty and obesity. The skeletal muscle contractile apparatus provides a novel handle for the therapy of these conditions. Cytokinetics is in a unique position to potentially create the next generation of therapies for the treatment of frailty and neuromuscular diseases based on the biology of skeletal muscle contraction.

In April 2008, Cytokinetics accounced the selection of a potential drug candidate directed towards skeletal muscle contractility which may be developed as a potential treatment for skeletal muscle weakness associated with neuromuscular diseases or other conditions.
